Spring into Archery

Hello Everyone and welcome to Spring 2018!

Sorry for the delay to this, moving house got in the way – this also means this will be longer than usual, but there is lots of good stuff so please do read through.

Its been a pretty horrible winter, but there has still been some great archery, with the Norfolk Bowmen Stafford and the County Indoor Championships, not to mention all the fun at Hingham and the CoNA Portsmouth. Results for these shoots are on the website, and we are looking forward to some more great shoots as we head into the outdoor season.

During the Indoor Season we have been running an inter-club postal league within the County, and we’d like to thank Rachel Jackson for her organisation of this. Results are on the website, and the winners are below. Due to the success of the indoor league, we are going to be running an outdoor postal league, based on the short metric round.

              Compound:                             Recurve:
1st Euston Park Bowmen         1st Wymondham Archers
2nd Hingham Bowmen              2nd Wherry Archers

              Barebow:                                 Longbow:
1st Wymondham Archers               1st Wherry Archers
2nd Hingham Bowmen              2nd Hingham Bowmen

As we all know, bragging rights are important in archery, but we hope that everyone has enjoyed being part of this competition, and want to see more clubs taking part in the outdoor league – details of which are available on the website along with the final results from the indoor league.

Summer 2018

We are in for an exciting summer for those already planning ahead.

Fakenham Bowmen are hosting their annual UKRS Mayday Shoot on 6/7th May! A Norfolk Archery institution, The Longbow meeting is heading into its 23rd year, the Warwicks into their 14th year and the Mayday Shoot itself into its 31st year! With such variety of rounds, distances, bowstyles, and the opportunity to try and give Mark Webb some form of challenge for the Tri-Bow Trophy (please… somebody take it off him!!!) this is a brilliant shoot, even if it can be a bit windy!
For those who entered the Warwick last year, you will have been offered free entry into this years Warwick – please contact Elaine if you haven’t heard anything!

Fakenham are also hosting their WRS Summer WA Weekend on 14/15th July. Now in its 7th year, this always pulls in a large number of archers, and is a great opportunity to shoot a World Record Status event without having to travel too far. With a fantastic judging team in place and of course the tasty catering from Nicola and her team it’ll definitely be an enjoyable shoot. This year, there are medals available for each day of the shoot, though trophies will still be awarded based on performance over the whole weekend.
Master and Cadet rounds are also available, and they will be joined by two archers from Blind Veterans UK!

Norfolk are once again hoping to send teams to the National Inter-Counties competition at Lilleshall this year. The shoot is over two days, with a WA 50/70m and team Head-to-Heads on the Saturday and a WA1440 on Sunday. We have had good turnouts for teams for the last couple of years, and are really looking to push on with more teams entered – particularly ladies teams. Full details can be found on the Website, or by e-mailing Rachel Jackson.

There are also lots of great shoots happening just outside Norfolk, and these are available on our website. The City of Cambridge Bowmen Wa720 weekend and the Netherhall Archers WA Weekend are particular highlights, and shoots where there is usually a good Norfolk turnout, so we’d like to see this continue this year!

On the Coaching front there will be a Level 1 Course running in Norfolk later in the year:
Day 1. 22nd September 2018
Day 2. 23rd September 2018
Day 3. 4th November 2018
Day 4. 9th December Assessment Day
Days 1, 2, 3 will run from 08.45 for 09.00 start – 17.00
Day 4 Assessment Day all participants will be involved from 09.00 – 18.00.
The cost of the course will be £270.00 per person.
The course will be held at the 30th Norwich Scout HQ, Sprowston, Norwich.
We have seen lots of new coaches come through our Level 1 courses and this course is nearly full, so get in touch with Duffy (County Coaching Organiser) if you’d like to book a place!

Think that is everything for now – as ever if you’d like anything included then please do let us know.
Until next time – happy shooting!

David
