Norfolk Archery June Newsletter

Norfolk Archery Association
June Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the June Newsletter. Before we get into the main newsletter there are a few announcements:

Firstly, apologies, this was meant to go out in May, but we have switched to a different e-mail host and it took me a little time to get to grips with it for sending things out.

Secondly, the County are holding an ordinary meeting for all members on Tuesday June 13th. The meeting is at the St. Faiths Centre, Manor Road, NR10 3LF, and starts at 7pm.
This is your chance to have a say in what the County does for you, so please do make sure you come along.
Please also pass this to anyone you know/your club to ensure it circulates to as many Norfolk archers as possible.

Finally, the Norfolk Archery Association Outdoor County & Open Championships will be held on Sunday 17th September, and will be hosted by City of Norwich Archers. The event will be a WA 1440 with Metrics/VI rounds also available, and will be World Record Status.
For more information and to enter, see the event page on our website: Norfolk County Championships

So, what else is going on around the County?

Norfolk Bowmen and Grey Goose Archers are taking part in this years Archery GB Big Weekend campaign, with events on Sunday 18th June!
The Big weekend is a great opportunity to promote Archery to the general public via a have-a-go day, and is always a great event to be a part of.

Norfolk Bowmen are once again hosting the Strawberries and Cream Shoot on 25th June.
This is a nice relaxed shoot, with Strawberries and Cream served at lunch time (and included in the £8 entry fee).

Also on that weekend is the Archery GB National Inter-Counties Tournament. Norfolk are once again sending teams to this event.
This year we have a Gents Compound team, comprised of Mark Webb (c), Andrew Jackson and Phil Williams, and a Gents Recurve team comprised of John Bruce (c), Lee Barnes and Gareth Hacon.
We have 2/3 for a Ladies Compound Team too, so if you are a lady compounder, and fancy joining Rachel Jackson and Layla Annison on the team, please let Rachel Jackson know asap as we may still be able to get the team entered!
We wish the Norfolk teams the best of luck, and hope they can have a great time and do even better than last year!

Fakenham Bowmen are once again hosting their WRS Summer WA weekend, this year on the 15th and 16th July.
Last year turned out to be a scorcher with some brilliant weather and some great shooting, and the event is looking like it will be well attended again this year.

Coaching and Development

There is also plenty happening in the world of coaching within the County.

Norfolk Archery are once again running a series of development days during the outdoor season. The first was held at Grey Goose Archers, and there are upcoming events at Wherry Archers and Hingham Bowmen.

The County is also going to be supporting the 252 Awards Scheme this summer as a way to help encourage archers to improve and begin to shoot longer distances. We are currently working on a leader board/ranking system so archers can submit their results should they so choose. See the 252 page for information on the awards.

On 19th June the Norfolk Archery Coaching Group are holding an Equipment and Bow Tuning session with Kieran Carr and Keith Harding from Clickers Archery. The session will explore set-up and tuning for Compound and Recurve bows, and there will be a Q&A too.
Great opportunity for coaches to earn CPD points, and the event is open to all Norfolk coaches as well as interested archers within the County.
